Saint Metrone of Verona

This week’s Saint of the Week is Saint Metrone of Verona, who lived in 8th century Italy.  In a radical act of self imposed penance, Saint Metrone chained himself to a rock outside the Cathedral of Verona and threw the key into the nearby Adige River.  He remained there exposed to the harsh elements for seven years until a fisherman found the key in the belly of a fish.  The fisherman took the key to the Bishop who took this as a sign and freed Saint Metrone and brought him into the full communion with the Church.  Miracles have been reported to have occurred at his grave.

Feast Day:  May 8th

Saint Metrone of Verona, pray for us!
