Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary

This week’s bonus Saint of the Week is my patron saint, Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary.  What an amazing man he must have been to have been selected by God to be the earthly Father of our Lord and the spouse of the Blessed Mother.  Saint Joseph does not speak a word in the scriptures, but his actions spoke volumes about his faith and his character.  The bible describes him as “a righteous man”.  He was obedient to God in all things, but was the least in his own household.  What must it have been like to be the earthly father of Jesus and the spouse of the woman all generations would call blessed?  Who among us could have lived up to that awesome responsibility?

Feast Day:  March 19th

Patron of: The blind and people with poor eyesight, of labor, of power, and of good discernment

Prayer to Saint Joseph: (Dating back to the 1st century!)

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.
O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

O St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.

Saint Joseph, terror of demons, pray for us!
